This is part of the story of the First Baptist Churches in Macon, GA, as they work towards reconciling their history. In the 19th century, members of the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Christ were slave owners, and owned the members of the First Baptist Church after the slaves wanted to form a separate congregation. After slavery was banned in the United States, the connections of the churches were cut off, and the relationship between them was all but buried.
Now, the churches are worshiping and eating meals together to acknowledge their painful history so they can both grow as true sister churches. This is the first part of that story, told from the First Baptist Church of Christ's perspective by their pastor, Scott Dickison.
